College Students and Meningococcal DiseaseIf your child is going to college this fall, the Maternal Child
Health department would like you to be aware of a vaccine that
prevents MENINGOCOCCAL, a serious bacterial infection that can cause
meningitis. College freshmen living in dorms have a six-time greater
chance of getting meningococcal disease than other college students,
according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Fortunately, 68% to 83% of meningococcal disease in college students is
caused by strains of bacteria that are potentially vaccine
preventable. For more information contact the Maternal Child Health
department. |
